CNN and the Snake
~ sssssSo here is our story ~
It all begins with a story that has been in the news about a Cobra being lost at the Bronx Zoo (Link to story). While using Twitter with a personal account yesterday (March 28th), I was following a hash tag called #wherethebronxzoocobraishiding and noticed someone had created a Twitter user named "BronxZoosCobra". I found it funny and decided to follow them, and I was actually the first follower.
Within a day the account "BronxZoosCobra" has over 95,000 followers! Since I was the first follower, it was being rumored that I must have created the fake account. I decided to use this to the advantage of MS_Dreams on Twitter and tweeted that if people wanted clues on the location of the snake, they should follow our charity on Twitter. Before I knew it CNN was calling and emailing to get my attention, and they felt there was a connection between MS Dreams and the account "BronxZooCobra"!
I let it fly for a while to try and grow our followers on Twitter but finally broke down and called Abigail Bassett (@AbigailBassett) with CNN. She is truly a great person and we had a nice chat. I got to tell her my side of the story and many details about Multiple Sclerosis Dreams. We had a great chat and a good laugh about the situation.
So Abigail, we would love to see you also follow us on Facebook (Facebook Page) and truly hope to be a part of a future story. I highly recommend anyone on Twitter to follow Abigail, and be sure to check out her website http://www.abigailbassett.com/.
What an interesting evening, I just had to share it with everyone! Thank you all for your continued support of MS Dreams!

MS Friend in need
Hello everyone,
I received a special request from a caretaker of someone with Multiple Sclerosis. She is celebrating her 70th birthday on September 22nd and her caretaker asked for some help. Would you send her a birthday card? You can email dreams@msdreams.org and I can share her name and address with you so it can be sent. It is OK if it is a little belated and it would really make her birthday special. Below is the email minus some details for you to review. I hope everyone can help out and thank you for your support!

Hi,
Im a Caretaker for a Lady who has MS and is confined to a wheelchair . I do as much for her as I can but at times it becomes very hard . She lives by herself and life is a burden to her at times . My heart breaks seeing her every day in the condition she is in . She will be 70 yrs old on the 22nd of this month . Kids and Family dont help alot and im not even sure if anybody will help me celebrate her Birthday .She is always so sad cause nobody really comes arround cause all feel that they have to help her when they visit . If anybody maybe wants to send her a Bday card im sure she would appreciate that and wont feel so forgotten, even if the cards are late.
Thank you so very much

I really hope we can all stick together and make this a special birthday for her!
Sincerely,

Let the voting begin... again!
Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for your support throughout the month of August. Trust me when I tell you that voting is for the birds but each day I remind myself of the situations people with Multiple Sclerosis are in and how much we could do for people with $25,000. It would really change the lives of several people and be an experience that would never be forgotten.
We have had several people mention that they will not vote or support anything that involves Pepsi because it is not a healthy product to promote. MS Dreams does not promote Pepsi or its products and in no way feels they are healthy. What we want everyone to understand though is that Pepsi is a huge organization that is giving some money back to the community. It is a shame that many other large organizations are not doing similar things and our hope is that by Pepsi taking this step others will follow. Voting for ideas will obviously expose you to some Pepsi advertising but there is absolutely nothing that asks you to purchase their products to support ideas, or anything similar. I do have to say that other than seeing some Pepsi logo's throughout the site, they have been very good with keeping the focus on the idea and not their products. Also, I have not seen even one email from Pepsi since signing up for voting which is a great thing.
Respecting those who do feel negatively towards Pepsi, we will be making some changes to our promotions. Also, since this is month two of voting and reminders we want everyone to feel comfortable and avoid being annoying to all of our friends 8-):
-- We will no longer mention "Pepsi" in our reminder emails or Twitter, Facebook, Blog posts. We will simply refer to the Refresh Project and hope it will show everyone that we want you to vote for MS Dreams and our partners, not for Pepsi.
-- We will be "piggy backing" our reminders on Facebook and Twitter. We generally do a daily post unrelated to the Refresh Project and from now on we will be focusing our posts more on our fundraising event in October. For example "Please visit our website for more information on our comedy night in October (Did you vote today? http://pep.si/cWg3dH)". This should limit the number of posts we do and help free up your daily viewing.
-- MS Dreams is still looking for volunteers to help spread the word and sell tickets to our comedy night October 9th in Warren, OH. If you are interested in selling tickets or hanging flyers, please email us at dreams@msdreams.org.
-- Last but not least, I wanted to thank everyone for voting our partner through in August! Angels 4 Epilepsy has been supporting us every day with votes and with your help they moved from #13 to #7 within hours and will receive a $5,000 grant.
Thank you all for your support, and we have some very exciting things coming up! Below are some links to our refresh project page and a link to daily voting reminders.

Bringing back the blog!
We have so many things going on in the coming months that I don't think Facebook and Twitter posts alone will get the job done. We have made some great strides in the August voting for the Pepsi Refresh Project and currently are sitting at 68th place. Although we don't expect to reach the top 10 by September 1st to win the $25,000 grant, we should easily qualify for an automatic rollover into September. Basically, sine we ranked so well in August we will automatically be in the voting for September as well, and start all over again 8-). We are trying to think of a way to get all of our Facebook followers involved in voting and possibly even some type of pledge if possible. We will keep you up to date on this as well.
On October 9th, 2010 we will be holding our 1st Annual Comedy Night/Dinner Fundraiser in Warren, OH named "Fall Over Laughing". Author and comedienne Sandi Selvi will be flying in from California to headline for us! Sandi also lives with MS and has a hilarious outlook on life. Opening for Sandi and MC-ing for the night will be Ian Giebeler. Ian is from Northeast Ohio and is very entertaining as well. We are looking to get one more comedian as well and will keep everyone posted.
Would you like to help us get votes, or volunteer to help spread the word and sell tickets for our comedy night? Please email us at dreams@msdreams.org and we can get started! Below are links to some promotional items to get started:
Ask your work or a business for a charitable donation: http://www.msdreams.org/dreams/solicitationletter.pdf
Hand flyers with order forms out to family and friends: http://www.msdreams.org/dreams/flyer_orderform.pdf
Post flyers on bulletin boards and at local businesses: http://www.msdreams.org/dreams/flyer.pdf
Thank you everyone for your support! With your help we will change lives for people with Multiple Sclerosis!
